SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) and StudentHero Community Service Group are all geared up for the ‘Run for Hero’ charity run on June 6.
The run from UCTS campus starts at 7am.
Organising chairman Oliver Ngu told a press conference yesterday that some 300 people from throughout the state would take part.
“We’re happy with the overwhelming response,” he said, adding that they hoped to raise RM1,000 for the Agape Centre.
“The objective is to promote a healthy lifestyle among the students whom we want to be actively engaged in community service and charity,” he said.
Meanwhile, UCTS senior manager (Student Development and Services) Clement Langet Sabang said this was a student project which would provide the opportunity for them to look for sponsors.
According to him, UCTS has a system called Leadership, Excellence Award (LEAD) where students learn skills that could not be acquired from the classroom.
He said there were three ways students could get merits for LEAD – attend club meetings, represent UCTS in competitions or participate in college competitions, and organise events.
“We want to produce students who are employable in the working environment and also to become efficient and productive employees in the future,” he said.
