KUCHING: Goh Peng Ooi of Silverlake Axis Ltd, winner of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Award 2014 Malaysia, will head to Monaco in June for the 15th EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) Awards.

He will be among the 65 country winners, representing 53 countries to compete for the world title and cement their legacy by entering the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year Hall of Fame, joining the 572 previous finalists of the event since 2001. The winner will be announced at a ceremony on the evening of Saturday, 6 June at Salle Des Étoiles.

Goh was recognised for the national award in Malaysia as he embodies an excellent example of entrepreneurs who have the foresight and vision to challenge the status quo nd ask questions that some haven’t even thought of yet.

“Entrepreneurs embrace exceptions. It is not about what you know or what you’ve been taught.

Exceptions happen to be powerful economic tools to discover innovation. For example, the diversities of Asean’s business and social institutions are exceptions.

Silverlake operates throughout Asean, proof that regional business integration is possible through embracing exceptions,” says Goh.

Also playing key roles at the world event in Monte Carlo are Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, Chairman of EcoWorld Development Group Berhad (EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Malaysia 2011) who has been invited to be on the WEOY judging panel for the second year running.

He will be joined by six other panel members comprising exceptional entrepreneurs from around the world who will determine the World Entrerpreneur Of The Year 2015; Datuk Tan Say Jim, Group Managing Director and CEO of IRIS Corporation Berhad (EY Technology Entrepreneur Of The Year Malaysia 2010) who will be leading an interactive discussion on Entrepreneurs without borders: collaborating to build a better world; and Ivan Teh, CEO and Managing Director of Fusionex Corp Sdn Bhd (EY Technology Entrepreneur Of The Year Malaysia 2014) who will be one of the “Growth Coaches” for Accelerating Entrepreneurs, aimed at helping high-potential entrepreneurs scale big and fast.

Under the theme “How are you reshaping our world?” this year’s WEOY programme will look at the impact entrepreneurs can make and the legacy they can leave, and in particular the global issue of youth unemployment.

The forum provides global business leaders and entrepreneurs with the opportunity to tackle topical issues like business growth; the rising urban middle class; youth employment; IPO and strategic transactions; technology’s role in shaping the future; and using digital disruption as a competitive edge.
