KUCHING: A man was found dead in a four-wheel drive vehicle (4WD) parked near a commercial centre at Mile 3 here on Friday night.

It was a member of the public who informed police about the grim find.

Following the 10am call, a police team was despatched to the scene and initial investigation found that the victim’s wallet and mobile phone were missing.

“We believe that they were stolen,” a police spokesperson told Utusan Borneo.

“The car was also unlocked. When we arrived, we saw that the engine was still running; so was the air-conditioning.”

Nevertheless, police identified the victim as 57-year-old Jemlin Stephen from Simunjan. Upon being informed, several family members of the victim rushed to the scene, said the spokesperson.

According to witnesses, they saw the 4WD being driven around the area that Friday.

Meanwhile, the victim’s wife told reporters that she last saw him around 3pm last Friday.

“I tried contacting him many times as I was worried about his safety, but his mobile phone could have been switched off. Maybe it was already stolen at that time.

“I was worried because he had been coming home earlier lately and also that he was not feeling well.”

According to her, her husband was suffering from asthma and hypertension.

“Last year, he had a minor stroke, but he recovered.”

The body had been sent to Sarawak General Hospital mortuary. Police have classified the case as sudden death pending post-mortem report.
