KUCHING: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has been appointed Honorary Chancellor of University College of Technology Sarawak (UTCS).

Chairman of UTCS’ board of directors, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato Dr Abdul Hakim Juri made a courtesy call on Taib to hand him the letter of appointment yesterday.

UCTS was set up during Taib’s tenure as chief minister, and he has followed its development with interest.

Visitors are impressed by the futuristic design of UCTS, which is the first university in the world to win an award (platinum) under the Green Building Index (GBI).

With the student’s population breaking the 1,000th mark, courses are expanding, including post graduate ones.

The management has embarked on attracting overseas students, including a recent trip to China led by Abdul Hakim.
