MIRI: Majulah Miri, a community service centre, has brought good news to the exco-committee of Sarawak Government Pensioners Association (PPKS) Miri branch.
Its founder Datuk Hii King Chiong, in a visit to the association’s office at Piasau Camp yesterday, agreed to contribute some financial assistance for repairing the office.
Association branch chairman Dennin Fredericks thanked Hii for responding to their request for help.
“We would use the money to deal with the leaking roof of our office and also erect a fence around it,” Dennin said, adding that work would be implemented immediately because they plan to use the premise to hold their first Hari Raya open house this mid- July.
Earlier, Dennin brought Hii on a tour to see the poor condition of the premise which had been used as the association’s office for some 14 years.
When Dennin became chairman early this year he made it a point that he would look into reviving the association with more activities, and he thought the most urgent thing is to improve the poor condition of their premise. They then sought the help of Datuk Hii through his service centre.
Meanwhile Hii said Majulah Miri offers an alternative channel from which they could seek help on deserving cases. He said they would do what they can to help people without claiming any credit or asking for anything in return. They derive satisfaction out of helping people and carry out their role to increase happiness in society.
Hii thanked his team of volunteers for dedicating their time and energy to the service centre.
“The functional success of Majulah Miri is not because of Hii, but through the total commitment of my voluntary team,” he said.
Also present were political secretary to chief minister Suzanne Lee, councillor Bruce Chai, councilor Kok Yung Kai, councilor Sim Poh Giat, volunteers of Majulah Miri and the exco-committee of the association.
