KUCHING: Rock legend Datuk Ramli Sarip expressed his desire to perform and be a part of the Rainforest World Music Festival 2015.

Datuk Ramli Sarip, also known as ‘Papa Rock’ recalled that his last performance at the festival was in 2000 and at the moment he has not received any invitation to perform this year.

When asked why he was attracted to be a part of it, he explained that the festival promotes a nature-oriented and sustainable way of life.

Although he is not a ‘hardcore’ environmental activist, Ramli feels upset whenever natural disasters and phenomenon occurs around the world, including the felling of trees.

“Apart from it being nature-oriented, the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) is unique as it combines traditional and modern ethnic music from around the world,” he said at the press conference of ‘Konsert Lagenda Jelajah Rock’ held at Kopi O Corner Satok yesterday.

Datuk Ramli is one of the five rock legends who will be performing from May 31 to Oct 17 at various venues, touring all over the country for ‘Konsert Lagenda Jelajah Rock’.

The five Malaysian rock stars – Papa Rock Ramli, Awie (of wings-Search fame), Mus May (the rock band), rock queen Ella and left-handed Man Kidal the guitar extraordinaire – were slated for a concert here at the Petra Jaya State Indoor Stadium last night, before heading for the Miri (Indoor Stadium) concert on June 6.

Meanwhile, Idearts Creativo executive director Aziz Yakub, who is also the organising chairman of the event, said it was not easy to get all five of these legendary rockers as every one of them has commitments in the local music scene.

“The concert is organised to help children with disabilities and natural disaster funds as well as to foster unity among Malaysians, mostly those who still enjoy music from the 80s and 90s.

“We will decide later on which charitable bodies will receive the donation,” he added.

Aziz added that he was confident that the concert will be successful as it is eagerly awaited by many fans of the rock giants.

“This is the chance to witness the performances of their favorite rockers on stage,” he explained.

Also attended the press conference were representatives from sponsors for the event that includes Kopi O Corner Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Mohd Kepli Ahmad and Outled chief executive officer Azlynda Jawawi.
