‘Adenan should lead state beyond 5 years’

BAU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem should be given the chance to lead the state, not just for another fi ve years but another 10 years or more.

Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) deputy president Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie said this was because Adenan has done a lot of good for the rakyat although barely a year in offi ce, and could do more if he stayed longer.

“We are not going to lose by having him lead the state because he is a leader who is peoplecentric.

Among the things he has done for the people are reduction in electricity rates, abolishment of tolls, fighting illegal logging and stopping foreign fishermen from coming to our waters,” he said.

He said Teras, although not officially a member of BN component, would continue to abide by decisions made by the chief minister.

Commenting on the statement by Adenan when he endorsed Teras secretary-general Datuk Sylvester Entrie Muran as BN candidate to defend Marudi in the next state election, Nansian said this was welcome news.

“Hopefully when he (Adenan) comes here on June 13 (to officiate at Redeems Gawai Carnival), he will bring more good news,” Nansian said in jest.

He figured that the endorsement of Entrie’s candidacy for Marudi could be an indicator that other Teras assemblymen including him and other Teras assembly persons – its president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom (Pakan), Rosey Yunus (Bekenu) and Palu Paulus Gumbang (Batu Danau) – would be re-nominated in the next state polls.

“Anyway it doesn’t matter because he always does and says the right things. For us we will abide by his decision. We have to respect his decision because he is the boss,” he stated.

On Gawai celebration this year, Nansian said it was good because most elected representatives were going back to their own areas to celebrate with the people on the ground.

“As for myself, I am holding open house here (Redeems Centre) because this place is big enough.

My own house cannot handle such a big crowd.

We give opportunity to everybody to come from 10am to 4pm today (yesterday).

“We serve halal food to cater our Muslim visitors and non-halal food for other communities,” he said.

Among the early birds to Nansian’s Gawai open house yesterday was political secretary to the chief minister, Datuk Wilfred Rata Nissom and wife.
