KUCHING: Chinese culture with the history of five thousand years has enriched many people’s life.

Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Liu Quan said this at the opening ceremony of ‘Chinese Cultural Carnival and Workshop’ at Chung Hua Middle School No.1 recently.

Liu said today China and Malaysia have established a very stable relationship after a few generations and the relationship is still growing dynamically.

He thus hoped to see Malaysia and China continue to enhance the friendship.

He said the action plan on the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative launched in China in March is to promote to a new level economic prosperity and cooperation for mutual benefit.

The new form of the Silk Road that connects Asian, European and African countries will benefit people around the world and that will also bring about more opportunities for collaborations between Malaysia and China.

The nine-day Chinese cultural carnival and workshop from June 1 to 9 at the school features the learning and teaching of Chinese as a language, Chinese literature, painting, calligraphy, handicrafts, singing, dances and martial arts.

The event is jointly organised by the Federation of The Boards of Management for Sarawak Chinese Schools and the China Overseas Exchange Association, China Overseas Exchange Associaton Fujian, and The Board of Management of Chung Hua Middle Schools No.1, 3 and 4.

Fujian Province Chinese Learning Centre chief Wu Zhong Bin heads the troupe of 13 teachers from various high schools and universities in China to host the carnival. Also present were Federation of The Boards of Management for Sarawak Chinese Schools vice chairman Pemanca Liu Thian Leong and The Board of Management of Chung Hua Middle Schools No 1, 3 and 4 Richard Wee.
