KOTA KINABALU: A lorry driver who was transporting gas cylinders was killed in a road accident at Km 10, Jalan Tuaran, near Inanam Taipan, here yesterday.

It is believed that the lorry landed on its side after it was knocked from behind by a Perodua Myvi car.

David Liwas, 42, was killed instantly due to severe head and body injuries in the 5.43am incident.

It is believed that the victim, who was transporting gas cylinders and heading to Inanam from Menggatal, was approaching the Inanam roundabout when the Myvi that was tailing from behind, rammed into the rear of the lorry.

The impact caused the driver of the three-ton lorry to lose control of the vehicle and overturned before landing on its side.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the victims body had been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem and family members had been notified.

The driver of the Myvi is also being treated at the same hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, he said yesterday.

Chandra said the case would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
