KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem will launch the first publication in the Sarawak Law Series, the Land Code (with annotations) tomorrow at the State Legislative Assembly building.

The publication of the Land Code (with annotations) is a joint effort between the State Attorney-General Chambers and LexisNexis, a leading global provider of content and technology solutions to legal practitioners, corporate and government organisations to make informed decisions.

The Land Code will have notes, commentaries, legislative history and judicial interpretations of the various sections in the Code.

The Book is intended to promote better and easier understanding of the provisions of the law that regulates the land use and classification of land, protection of registered interests in land and planning and development control.

In the Foreword to the book, Adenan said that the Land Code has provisions that promote better economic utilisation and development of land, such as through land use classification; proper and structured planning, the development of native customary land in rural areas as well as the development and re-development of our cities and towns.

He pointed out that since its enactment in 1958 the Land Code has been amended  several times so that its provisions could keep abreast with changing economic and social conditions in the State and to meet the expectations of our people.

“The State Government will continue to ensure that our Laws do not impede, but rather, promote development and the economic progress of our State and its people.”

The Book will spell out the law as it stands on Jan 1, 2015 when the Land Code (Amendment) Ordinance, 2014 came into force.

Limited copies of the Book, priced at RM160 for soft cover and RM250 for hard cover, will be on sale at the launching ceremony.
