KUCHING: Sandvik Materials Technology is showcasing its next generation technologies and materials in an interactive format at Oil and Gas Asia (OGA 2015), Asia’s largest oil and gas industry event, which is being held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

The group is a division within the Sandvik Group, developer and producer of advanced stainless steels, special alloys, titanium and other high-performance materials.

Benno Wagner, regional sales and marketing manager Oil and Gas, Asia Pacific at Sandvik said the Asian region continues to grow in prominence as it holds significant offshore oil and gas resources.

“With the current energy landscape where reserves are hanging in the balance, coupled with increasingly extreme environments, it is important for the overall industry to work together to overcome these challenges.”

Wagner added that this year has been a challenging one for the industry with organisations facing tough choices on spending, costs, and growth strategies.

“As subsea oil and gas production move to deeper wells, operations at higher pressures and in more adverse conditions are required.

“The industry is constantly seeking a higher level of requirements in yield strength as well as fracture toughness and specification, as conditions in remote oil and gas fields get increasingly harsh over the years.

“OGA is a great platform for us to meet with industry professionals, demonstrate our capabilities in leading corrosion resistant material solutions and present our next generation high-performance materials,” Wagner added.

This year at OGA 2015, attendees will get an immersive experience of the 3D film “The Deep” through a virtual reality tool, Google Cardboard.

Additionally, they will also be able to interact with showpad tablet devices to explore next generation, high precision, corrosion-resistant materials.

Sandvik Materials Technology will present a wide range of corrosion-resistant products including umbilical tubing, OCTG tubing, downhole control lines, hydraulic lines for drilling risers, tubing for well screens, subsea piping material and more.

The booth will also display the complex components of powder metallurgy hot isostatic pressing (HIP) and Sandvik ClikLoc rapid action connector for riser applications.

The Sandvik SAF 2507 is a super-duplex stainless steel that combines high corrosion resistance with high mechanical strength.

With excellentresistance to seawater and marine environments, it is particularly well-suited for applications exposed to high stress in aggressive chloride-rich environments.

The company’s advanced materials maximise production with quicker, safer and more efficient processes in the world’s most demanding environments.

Sandvik is setting new industry standards with its next generation high performance materials to meet the operational demands presented by the pressure in extreme water depths below 10,000 feet.

Sandvik continues to strengthen its capabilities and deliver its innovative solutions to clients in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

In the first quarter of 2015, a large order for control line tubes was secured for a major service company for delivery for a gas & condensate field development in Jangkrik field in offshore East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
