The free death row migrants welcomed emotionally

AMUNTAI, South Kalimantan: The return of six Indonesian workers of North Hulu Sungai, South Kalimantan, origin, who were freed from beheading by a Saudi Arabian court, greeted emotionally by relatives, Antaranews reported.

Tears broke when relatives saw their family members came home safely and arrived in the hall of North Hulu Sungai (HSU) government office, Thursday afternoon. Officials also welcomes their return.

They are Saiful Mubarak bin Abdullah, Sam`ani bin Muhammad Niyan, Muhammad Rusydi Muhyi Jamli, Ahmad Zizi Hartati and Abdul Aziz Supiani. While Mohammad Daham origin of Tapin but has HSU ID.

Deputy Governor of South Kalimantan Rudy Resnawan and Deputy Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens Abroad from the Foreign Affairs Ministry HM Surya delivered the six migrant workers to HSU government.

Deputy governor said after they had been undergoing the judicial process almost 9 years, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with South Kalimantan and HSU Government finally liberate them.

“South Kalimantan government had redeemed diyat money amounting to 400 thousand riyals equivalent to Rp1.32 billion to the heirs of the victim to ask forgive for HSU migrant workers who are on death row,” said Rudy.

It was not easy to get a victim’s family’s forgiveness. The Government of Indonesia through the Consulate General in Saudi Arabia has made formal and informal efforts to the families of the victim.

“Finally the heirs of the victim on July 14, 2014 were willing to forgive without asking diyat at all, but because the victim has a child who is in a dependent ultimately the courts of Saudi Arabia imposed a fine or compensation of around 400 thousand riyals or Rp1.32 billion,” he said.

Earlier, on Wednesday (3/6), Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over the workers to South Kalimantan Governor Rudy Arifin witnessed by his deputy Rudy Resnawan and HSU Vice Regent H Husairi Abdi.

They were arrived at Syamsudin Noor Airport Banjarmasin on Thursday (4/6) morning and sent back to Amuntai, the capital of HSU.
