KUCHING: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib attended a high-tea held in conjunction with the state-level birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Mukah Civic Centre yesterday.

The event hosted about 1,000 people comprising ministers, prominent figures, senior government officials and local community leaders.

It began with a cake-cutting ceremony by Taib, Ragad and Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah on stage before proceeding to the presentation of donations to 150 recipients including senior citizens, the disabled and underprivileged children. In between, the guests were entertained by a live band and local singers performing classic numbers of the late Tan Sri P Ramlee, as well as ‘poco-poco’ and cultural dance performances.

The finale of the high-tea was the launch of the ‘Raja Kita’ (Our Kings) exhibition, performed by Taib at the civic centre’s multipurpose hall.
