SIBU: Some 4,000 people are expected at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s walkabout in Taman Selera Harmoni, Awang Ramli Amit Road here, on June 15.

According to Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee this will be the inaugural visit by the nation’s top leader to the popular food court who is expected to make the walkabout around 8.30pm.

He said the informal event is organised by PBB Sibu.

He also said Najib would stopover here for the night before proceeding to Kapit the following day to attend the ‘Ngiling Bidai’ at Rh Benggau, Nanga Sut in Baleh.

“While in Sibu, he (Najib) will like to do a walkabout, mingling with the crowd and enjoying the local delicacies at the food court. At the same time, he will be meeting up with the Bumiputeras in Nangka and the operators.

“Hopefully, I can make use of this visit to convey the wish-lists and problems of Nangka folks to the Prime Minister in person,” Dr Annuar told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He believed that Najib’s visit to Taman Selera Harmoni would further elevate the place as a popular food court.

With the upgrading of the food court through the RM1 million allocation from the state government, more people would be attracted to the place, which he said was unique and offered a wide variety of food besides being fully operated by Muslim operators.

Meanwhile, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong when contacted yesterday, too believed the visit would make the food court better known to food lovers from far and near.

“The visit will definitely increase the popularity of the food court,” Wong added.

He said the place had been spruced up in preparation for the PM’s visit. The food court is a popular dining place among locals in the evenings.
