KAPIT: The Minister of Land Development Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James JemutMasing has hailed the setting up of the new Kapit Football Association (KFA).

“For a long time (the previous) KFA wasn’t active at all. Nothing was done to promote the game,” he observed.

The minister was officiating at the opening of the Kapit League 2015 held at the Padang Sukan last Sunday. He also announced a grant of RM20,000 for the association.

Earlier upon his arrival, Masing was greeted by Sarawak Football Association deputy president Lieutenant Madya Maritime Duke Jenteng, KFA chairman Kennedy Kuyang and committee members.

Also present were Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament Wilson Ugak Kumbong, political secretaries Wilson Nyabong Ijang and Jefferson Jamit Unyat, and Kapit Resident Fedrick John George.

A total of seven teams – Accurate FC, Mulu Raj United, Kapit Eagle, Putra Ababitl 15, Gamang FC, 66 Mobile Joker and RT Selatan – are taking part.

KFA also announced plans for a women’s tournament, a referee’s course and futsal competitions.
