KUCHING: A teacher was found dead in an apartment block in Batu Kawah yesterday after failing to show up for work for the past three days.

The 46-year-old’s decomposing body was found around 2pm after a cleaner alerted the police about a stench emanating from inside the unit.

While police were in the process of retrieving the body, the teacher’s elder sister showed up and said she had just arrived from Asajaya to check on her sibling after a collegue called her to say he had not been to work for the past three days.

According to her, she last saw her brother alive on June 4 when she and her family came from Asajaya and spent the night with him prior to taking a flight to Kuala Lumpur.

She added she last sent him a text message on June 14, and was slightly worried when she did not receive a reply from him especially as he always promptly replied to her text messages.

“It was only today (yesterday) when his colleague called me to ask why he had not showed up for work and was incommunicable that I realised something was wrong and decided to rush here to check,” she said.

The case has been classified as sudden death pending the outcome of a post mortem.
