KUCHING: The Dayak Cultural Festival (DCF) this weekend will feature an art and tattoo exhibition by renowned Dayak artists, cultural shows and various traditional delicacies from throughout Borneo.

To be held at the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) centre at Jalan Kumpang, organisers Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) and Dayak National Congress (DNC) are inviting the public to experience the best that Dayak culture has in store.

“The main objective of this DCF is to promote Dayak culture and arts, to create a platform to display and market Dayak products while establishing a channel to forge wider cooperation and collaboration among Borneo Dayak communities.

“During this cultural festival, there are good participation from Dayak Kalimantan and Dayak Kadazandusun from Sabah,” SDGA president Dr Dusit Jaul told The Borneo Post yesterday.

“Guests coming for this DCF will be feted with rich varieties and uniqueness of Dayak culture that we have been famous for.”

Art enthusiasts can admire the works of Sylvester Jussem, Petrus Wilfred, Melton Kais, Narong Daun, John Bosco and Brendan Johnny from today at the Dayak Artists Art Exhibition.

Those participating in the Dayak Tattoo Expo include Ernesto Kalum of Borneo HeadHunters Tattoo and Piercing, Robert Mayau of Borneo Native and Western Tattoo, and artists from Borneo Tattoo Ink.

The Dayak Mini Bazaar and Carnival will feature various Dayak cuisines and rice wine from here, Sabah and Kalimantan.

Alongside the presentation of cultural shows, there will be some 30 booths selling and displaying delicacies and cultural artefacts.

Official launching of the festival is at 10am tomorrow. This will be followed by a dinner where state dignitaries from Kalimantan, Sabah and Brunei will attend including Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.

Highlights of the main dinner celebration will be a rice wine drinking contest, Dayak songs karaoke competition and cultural performances by the various ethnic communities of Borneo.

There will also be various contests such as blow-pipe and Hornbill-theme carving competition.
