Ramadan joy at Surau Abu Bakar Assadiq

MIRI: Fifty-two single mothers and orphans received Ramadan gifts and `bubur lambuk’ (porridge) at Surau Abu Bakar Assadiq in Desa Senadin on Saturday.

The surau’s chairman, Abang Mohamad Mahmud Abang Deli, said the event was the surau’s first ever since its prayer room extension project was completed before the fasting month.

Present at the gathering were UPP Northern Region coordinator Datuk Hii King Chiong, his wife Datin Ting Hua Eng, political secretary to the Chief Minister, Suzanne Lee Tze Ha, UPP Pujut chairman Bruce Chai, Imam Abu Hurairah, and some members of UPP Senadin and UPP Piasau.

“Now, Muslims living in Desa Senadin Phase I, II, III, IV, V, VI, Desa Ras, Promin Jaya, Green Villa and Curtin University can have join `Terawih’ prayers during the month of Ramadan, “ Abang Mohamad told reporters covering the function.

He thanked donors, including Hii, for answering the calls of Muslims here for a bigger prayer room.

Meanwhile, Hii said UPP were not only helping temples and churches but also suraus in line with the 1Malaysia spirit.

At the gathering, he and his wife distributed porridge and Ramadan gifts to the orphans and single mothers present. The porridge was also given to some non-Muslims from Desa Senadin.
