KUCHING: Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) held a talk on the values and benefits of community policing for Kenyalang Park Community Association (KPCA) executive committee members on Sunday.

Led by SCPA Formation of New Community Policing Units chairman Leon Lim, various topics and issues were presented by SCPA committee members as well as the police contingent.

Among the topics highlighted were what the community can do to prevent crime in society and the need for joint efforts between the community and police to prevent crime.

SPCA chairman Datuk John Lau Pang Heng said it was the duty of citizens to ensure that there were no loopholes for criminals to break into premises.

“As an individual, we need to ensure that our wallet or purse is not visible to potential snatch thieves. While paying at the cashier, we need to keep our money in the right place so that it is not easy for anyone to get hold of it,” he advised.

He also encouraged the people, irrespective of political affiliations, education, occupation and belief to join SCPA in their mission to fight and reduce crime as well as to educate the public on crime prevention.

Meanwhile, Sekama police chief inspector Ahmad Naim Ayub emphasised that the police and his team will be readily available to the community to help fight, reduce and prevent crime.

Present at the talk was KPCA president Penghulu Tan Heng Kee.
