KUCHING: Basketball enthusiasts might be thrilled to know that there will be a 3-on-3 basketball competition held during the Kuching Festival organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) on Aug 2.
Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd yesterday presented a RM25,000 sponsorship to MBKS for the Kuching Festival Sports Toto 3-on-3 Basketball Jamboree 2015.
MBKS Mayor Datuk James Chan who accepted the mock cheque during the handover, expressed his gratitude to Sports Toto for again sponsoring the annual basketball event.
Sports Toto has been the main sponsor for the basketball event since the Datuk Bandar Cup was introduced in 1993.
“For this event, I am hoping to see more participation especially from the youths, as well as a more racially diverse participation from the community,” said Chan during the ceremony.
More than just a sport or a favourite leisure activity, Chan said he hoped the basketball event could be a way to promote a healthy lifestyle among the community.
Also present during the handover ceremony were Sports Toto manager (Communications) Giam Say Khoon, Kuching area sales executive Helen Tan Puay Cheng, East Malaysia regional executive Lilia Chong, and MBKS Councillor Sim Thong Poh.
The basketball tournament will be held at the foyer of Dewan MBKS.
The categories for the Kuching Festival Sports Toto 3-on-3 Basketball Jamboree are Non-Chinese Men Open, Women Open, 20 and Under (Boys), 16 and Under (Boys), 16 and Under (Girls), 12 and Under (Boys) and 12 and Under (Girls).
Besides the 3-on-3 competition, there will also be a Basketball Championship by Invitation and a 3 Points Fun Shooting Competition.
