LAHAD DATU: The government should speed up the installation of seismic monitoring equipment and other facilities in Lahad Datu to face the eventuality of an imminent earthquake in the district.

Local businessman, Chin Khi Min said since the disclosure by former Director of Sabah Department of Minerals and Geoscience Alexander Yan of an imminent earthquake in Lahad Datu, the people were worried about the possibility of an earthquake.

This is despite the fact that the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman has already urged the relevant government departments to be proactive and put in place necessary measures to cope with such eventuality.

“However, besides the preparation for security, rescue and medical aid, the government should speed up the installation of seismic monitoring equipment and other facilities.

“It is also important to educate the people on measures to be taken to protect lives and reduce casualties,” he said.

Chin added that these measures should be taken immediately.
