MIRI: Fifty-six squatter families in Kampung Baru Pujut 7 have applied to the state government for permanent lots.

Village security and development committee (JKKK) chairman Ding Lah said the applications had been submitted through United People Party (UPP), to be forwarded to the Land and Survey Department.

“More than 300 people have lived in this village for over 30 years. There is lack of basic facilities and proper amenities in the village, such as electricity supply,” he said at the `Ngiling Bidai Gawai Dayak 2015’ at the village’s community hall yesterday.

“The people in this village do not mind to be relocated to a new settlement area.”

UPP Pujut branch chairman Councilor Bruce Chai, who was also present, said he and UPP Senadin Branch chairman Councillor Keith Chin visited the village in the last two days after the people conveyed their problems to Majulah Miri Group.

Chai assured that UPP would do its best to help the people as they (UPP) shared the same spirit with Barisan Nasional (BN).

He advised the applicants to be patient as the process of getting permanent lots would take some time.

On the problems that some villagers could not send their children to school due to poverty, Chai said he would alert the Welfare Department.

Also present at the event was political secretary to the chief minister Suzanne Lee.
