Malaysia trash Macau 5-0 to book quarter final berth

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia strolled past Macau 5-0 in Group C of the 2015 Asian Junior Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

With the victory, the junior badminton team emerged as the group runners-up and sealed a place in the quarter-finals.

Malaysia whipped Singapore 5-0 but lost to South Korea 4-1 in the opening day of the championships on Sunday.

Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Tan Jinn Hwa/Anna Cheong Ching Yik gave Malaysia a flying start by defeating Ng Weng Chi/Lou Hok Man 21-7, 21-8 while the boy’s singles Lee Zii Jia made it 2-0 after beating Iek U Leong 21-18, 21-6.

Aaron Chia Teng Fong/Sim Guo Zheng quickly wrapped up the winning point with a 21-9, 21-16 win over Chua Pui Ngai/Pui Pang Fong while Lee Ying Ying had an easy outing when she disposed off Chan Kit Lei 21-18, 21-5.

Anna Cheong was the toast of the team as she helped the team to complete the rout with Ooi Shi Han by sweeping past Gong Xue Xin/Ng Weng Chi 21-12, 21-16 in the girl’s doubles. — Bernama
