PUTRAJAYA: The government will not clamp down on the media as a move to silence speculations on  issues such as the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said people were still making allegations against the government all the time while speculations by the media, be it in the mainstream or social media, were still on-going.

“I don’t think the government has the power to stop the media from what they want to say. The government is not going to clamp down on the media, that is the promise by the government,” he told reporters after performing the soft launch of Fourth General Police Equipment Exhibition and Conference (GPEC) Asia 2015, here yesterday.

He was asked to comment on claims that the investigation on former PetroSaudi International Ltd (PSI) executive Andre Xavier Justo, who is now detained in Thailand, was a move to silence media to justify in future that the government does not have to answer on 1MDB issue. — Bernama
