Hii elected MISIF Sarawak chairman at inaugural meet

KUCHING: Malaysian Iron and Steel Industry Federation (MISIF) Sarawak branch held its inaugural meeting in April where its Committee By-Laws were laid down and office bearers for the 2015-2016 term were elected.

Victor Hii Lu Thian of YKGI Holdings Bhd was chairman, Nadison Rathenum of Sykt Perniagaan Perindustrial King Hong Sdn Bhd (vice- chairman), Christopher Teh of Harum Bidang Sdn Bhd (secretary) and Peter Chia of Amcan Colour Coating Industries Sdn Bhd (treasurer). The committee members are Jason Lee Kheng Swee (CMS Wires Sdn Bhd) and Tie Tung Wei (Shunto Steel Industries Sdn Bhd).

Hii said the objective of setting up committees for North, Central, South, East Coast, Sabah and Sarawak was to provide services to members at the state and regional levels and their primary focus was on interfacing with
state government and local authorities as well as handling all matters at both state and regional levels.

The Northern Region branch chairman is Dato’ Steven Siah (Tatt Giap Steel Centre Sdn Bhd), Central Region chairman Loke Kin Leong of Nicom Steel Service Centre Sdn Bhd and Southern Region chairman Benjamin Ramos of Bahru Stainless Sdn Bhd.

The establishment of the Eastern Region and Sabah branches is in progress.

The committee’s other tasks include attending to the needs of members, recruitment of members to the federation and conduct of any activities that are consistent with the overall policy and objectives of the federation as set out by the council.

MISIF is a national industry association for manufacturers of iron and steel products which currently has 152 member companies.

Members are all manufacturers of various steel products including raw and semi-finished products such as billets and blooms; rolled products of iron and steel such as bars, wire rods, HR coils, CR coils and plates; wire and wire products; flat steel products such as pipes, tubes and fitting; galvanised and coated sheets, roofing sheets, wall cladding and drums; engineering and fabricated products like boiler and pressure vessels; as well as iron and steel casting.

The primary function of MISIF is to assist and support members in carrying out their business efficiently and successfully.

As such, it supports the membership by representing their interest to the government on relevant issues of concern primarily those related to policies on the steel industry as well as to disseminate information through seminars, workshops, circulars and publications.

Other activities include consulting members on issues as requested by the government or other authorities, business promotion for members as well as human resource development and training courses.
