LUNDU: The police are hot on the heels of a woman who concealed a birth after her newborn – gender undetermined – was found in a box buried in a shallow grave near the main road at Bukit Tamang here on Monday.

According to Lundu police chief DSP Wong Chee Keong, they are searching for the suspect while the body of the infant has been sent to Lundu Hospital for a post mortem.

“We are trying to identify the baby’s parents to find out why its birth and death were concealed,” Wong said when contacted yesterday.

It was reported on Monday that the grave and gravestone with the words ‘Born 17/6/2015’ and ‘Died 17/6/2015’ carved were discovered by villagers at a Felcra plantation in Bukit Tamang who alerted the police.

The report said when the grave was exhumed, they found inside a coffin the baby’s body with the umbilical cord still attached. The infant was clothed.

The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code.
