KUCHING: The annual Ramadan charity programme by Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) is set to bring joy to 186 orphans and 1,658 poor students from 12 schools around the city.

The team led by the board’s secretary-general Tan Sri Datuk Amar Bujang Nor headed to five schools on Monday to present aid to these underprivileged children. They first went to SMK Agama Matang 2, Matang Vocational College and SM Sains Kuching in the morning.

When met by reporters, Matang Vocational College director Faridah Abdullah expressed her gratitude to LAMKNS.

“This really means a lot to the students, especially with Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaching. The assistance really helps to lessen their burden,” she said, adding that her college had been included in the programme for three years.

Later in the afternoon, the team went to Kolej Datu Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah (Kolej Abdillah) and SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi.

In his remarks, SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi’s students affairs senior assistant Sebri Juni thanked LAKMNS for the inclusion of his school in the programme.

“We hope that this aid would help in giving Raya cheer to the students. We also hope that LAKMNS would continue to remember this school in its annual activity,” he said.

The board presented contributions to 22 underprivileged students from Kolej Abdillah, while the recipients at SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi comprised 33 underprivileged students and four orphans.

It is learned that the programme would also include SMK Matang Jaya, SM Teknik Sejingkat, SMK Bako and SK Tabuan later.

Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai, LAKMNS general manager Mohamad Sabry Othman and its executive committee member Drahman Jaladin were among members of the visiting delegation.
