SIBU: A man was bound while his partially paralysed wife was gagged as they were robbed of their cash and valuables worth RM19,000 at their house in Wawasan Road early yesterday.

The incident occurred at 1.30am after the 61-year-old woman, who is paralysed on the left side of her body after a stroke, had gone to bed while her husband was still awake.

The couple occupies a room on the ground floor while their son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren occupy a room on the first floor. The robbers entered the room after breaking a kitchen window.

It was the man who first heard sound in the kitchen, and when he went out to check, four robbers in black armed with a knife each pushed him into the room. One of them wore mask while the others wore caps.

After a robber pushed him to his bed the other covered his wife’s face with the palm of his hand.

Sensing trouble, the man pleaded not to harm them. He even told them to take whatever money and valuables they had in the room.

When the robbers asked him where they kept all their valuables, the man pointed to where they were.

The robbers ransacked the room and took cash amounting to RM9,000, gold jewelry and two gold rings on the man’s fingers, a watch and three handphones.

Some of the items are gifts from their children during the recent Parents’ Day celebration.
