Senior citizen dies in head-on collision

MIRI: An elderly man died on the spot in a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle near Ngu’s junction in Niah at about 12.15pm today.

Miri Fire and Rescue station chief Supt Ali Bema who was at the scene when contacted today said the victim, aged 60, died from serious head injuries.

“The victim was travelling alone in a Perodua Viva. There were two people inside the other car, a Perodua Kembara.

“The driver and passenger in the Perodua Kembara suffered injuries and have been taken to a clinic in Niah for immediate treatment,” he said.

Ali said the victim was on his way from Ngu’s junction heading towards Niah bazaar when the accident struck.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
