Pera-Pera scores fourth win in a row, objection upheld against Honey Money for interference

Pera-Pera … just too good

Pera-Pera … just too good

KUCHING: Pera-Pera got the bouquet and Honey Money was given the stick on the final day of the June Meeting last Sunday.

Pera-Pera justified her promotion to Class Two in Race 4 over 1000M and her status as the hot favourite in the race by scoring an easy pillar-to-post victory, leaving the rest to scramble for the minor placings in her wake.

The seven-year-old mare was out of the starting gates in a flash, making an early break as the field settled down past the 800M mark.

The Berjaya Stable’s racer opened a big lead round the home turn and was so far ahead coming into the homestraight that the extra ground she had to cover after being taken out wide for the run home

failed make any difference to the final outcome of the race.

Pera-Pera cruised to the finishing line, giving jockey Roslan Bujang an armchair ride, to win by a distance for her fourth win in as many starts.

Dream Lobo (Othman Putit) finished second with Zorro (Maruf Wahab) third, ¾ length away.

Pera-Pera, trained by Tamizi Putit, paid RM7.

The winner of Race Two (Class 4 – 1000M) Honey Money, ridden by Jasmi Kamar, was relegated to second place following a successful objection by Mazlan Bujang, rider of the second pony, Little Apache, for interference in the closing stages.

The racing stewards, after considering the evidence from both jockeys and viewing the running of the race, upheld the objection.

The placings were reversed with Little Apache declared the winner and Honey Money downgraded to second place. The jockey of Honey Money was also fined for careless riding.

Perfect Dancer (Maruf Wahab) was third, 4 lengths adrift.

Little Apache, owned by Penny Stable, and trained by Edmund Sim, paid a good dividend of RM42.

Augustus (Maruf Wahab) was another all-the-way winner in Race Five (Class 1 – 1000M).

The nine-year-old led the field on a merry chase, holding off a late bid from He’s The One (Othman Putit) to win by 2 3/4 lengths with Bintang Kilong (Azizi Jasmi) third, a head away.

Augustus stole a march from a clean dispatch and strode clear of the tightly packed field as the runners jostled for position on settling down.

Augustus, relishing the give underfoot from a late night shower, led round the home turn and into the homestraight but danger loomed as the Samba Rabin’s mudlark came under pressure from all directions with 200M left.

Geronimo (Roslan Bujang) staked his claim two wide off the rails but lost steam and faded away.

Highly-fancied Ini Kali (Jasmi Kamar) failed to produce his trademark finishing burst and looked out of sorts.

The race was not over yet.

He’s The One (Othman Putit) and Bintang Kilong (Azizi Kamar) came with a big run on the outside and were gaining ground with every stride but the winning post was getting away from them as they arrived a tat late to thump the front-running Augustus.

A head separated He’s The One from Bintang Kilong for second and third.

Augustus, trained by Mohammad Putit, paid RM18. The going was good.
