KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno Constitution and Legal Bureau will meet in two days’ time to discuss the postponement by 18 months of the party elections by the Supreme Council.

Party vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the meeting would also discuss the direction and how to ensure the party’s constitutional amendment process and elections would be smooth.

“I, as the bureau chairman, feel relieved as we now have more time to improve the amendments to the party’s constitution. “Many want it (Umno elections) to be deferred…besides that, we will also be able to receive more feedback from our members including the grassroots,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby, here, yesterday.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the Umno Supreme Council’s decision to defer the party elections by 18 months to enable it to focus on serving the people and on strengthening unity among the members. — Bernama
