Five traffic offenders fined

KOTA KINABALU: The Traffic Court here yesterday fined five men for separate charges under the Road Transport Act 1987.

Fredy Camillus, 45, was fined RM500, in default, three weeks’ jail after he pleaded guilty before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to riding a motorcycle without license at Jalan Tanjung Lipat on December 21, 2009.

He was convicted under Section 26 (2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333/87) which carries a maximum fine of RM2,000 or a jail term of up to six months.

Hilary Lusin, 29, was fined RM450, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment by magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie for having a motorcycle without a valid insurance coverage as required under Part IV of the same Act.

He committed the offence at Jalan Kepayan on December 23, 2014.

The offence, framed under Section 90 (1) of the same Act, is punishable with a fine of up to RM2,000 or a maximum jail of six months, upon conviction.

The other accused persons, Wong Tai Kiong, 43, was fined RM1,500, in default, three weeks’ jail, while Jayson Chong San Long, 33, and Chong Han Lee @ Christopher, 45, were each fined RM2,000, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment after they all admitted to driving their cars while under the influence of alcohol.

They were charged under Section 45A of the same Act which provides for a maximum fine of RM6,000 or a jail term of up to 12 months, upon conviction.

Traffic prosecuting officer Hanif Mamyudi told the court that the three accused persons were arrested during separate operations between January 10 and June 19 at Jalan Lintas.
