Another weak earthquake hits Ranau

KUALA LUMPUR: A weak earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale struck Ranau, Sabah, Thursday night.

Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement said the epicentre of the quake was at 6 degrees north and 116.6 degrees east, 8 kilometres northwest of Ranau.

On 5 June, Ranau was shaken by a moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale which claimed 18 lives.

In another statement, the department also said that a moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale occurred in the Eastern New Guinea Region in Papua New Guinea at 11.01 pm today.

The statement said quake’s epicentre was 100km North of Lae, Papua New Guinea and 3362km Southeast of Semporna, Sabah.– BERNAMA
