KUCHING: Three Chinese national women who are allegedly involved in fraudulent cases were released on remand by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Magistrate Zulhairel Sulaiman however decided that the trio be transferred to Sri Aman for further investigation.

The suspects, aged 42, 44 and 53 years old, were caught in the Padawan Pitcher Plant and Wild Orchid Garden about 8am on June 27 while trying their luck on a local woman in her 60s.

One of them was said to have pretended to be weighed down by family issues and started weeping before the elderly woman who listened to her story out of pity.

The suspect even called a local man on her mobile phone to ‘confuse’ the woman, who seemingly was unable to make a clear judgment whether to buy her story or not. It was fortunate that a couple of residents saw her (local woman) with the suspects and sought help from the authorities for fear that the elderly woman might be tricked into giving her valuables to the suspects.

The enforcement officers, who arrived at the scene, did not take immediate action against the suspects but observed what was going on. However, when they decided to find out more by approaching the group, one of them fled the scene but to no avail. When the enforcement team apprehended them, they saw a luxurious car parked not far from the garden.

It however sped away from the scene when the enforcement officers were about to check it out. It is believed that the whole thing involved several locals. Official records also showed that the three suspects have been travelling in and out of the country with the most recent entry on June 25.

It is understood that the case was not the first crime they were involved in. A high profile case involving the trio was about a victim being tricked into handing over belongings worth RM100,000. The police here have reasons to believe that the suspects could be responsible for similar fraud cases in Sibu.
