Two Filipinos among six jailed, fined for consuming syabu

KOTA KINABALU: Six people – four local men and two Filipinos – were yesterday jailed and fined by the Magistrate’s Court here for separate charges of consuming syabu.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus sentenced three of the four local men to between two and four months in jail, and fined while another man RM1,700, in default, four months in jail.

The two foreigners were jailed for four months each.

They pleaded guilty to each of their charges under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years, upon conviction.

They were arrested at the Karamunsing police station and who under the bridge at Kingfisher in Likas between May 29 and June 2.

Their urine samples tested positive for drugs.

The magistrate ordered all locals to be placed under police supervision for two years and the foreigners to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action after serving their jail sentences.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Isfandiar Dr. Jasdi prosecuted while counsel Hamid Ismail from Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan represented all the accused.

In another Magistrate’s Court, five local men were each charged with committing a similar offence.

However, no plea was recorded from all the accused, who were brought before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie yesterday.

The court fixed August 5 and 6 this year to re-mention the cases pending the production of their urine analysis reports from the Chemistry Department.

The accused persons were released on bail of RM1,500 each with two local sureties, pending disposal of their cases.
