KUALA LUMPUR: The dress code imposed by the Defence Ministry should be observed by all visitors, including journalists, when dealing with the ministry.

The ministry, in a statement here yesterday, said visitors to the ministry are required to wear decent clothing that is not sexy and does not expose their body.

The statement was issued following an incident where a journalist was not allowed to cover the presentation of Hari Raya packages to the Malaysian Armed Forces at Wisma Pertahanan at Jalan Padang Tembak on Thursday because her dressing did not comply with the dress code. Following the incident, the ministry called for all quarters, including media agencies, to cooperate by adhering to the dress code.

A journalist from a local English daily was not allowed to cover the event Thursday because she was wearing an above-the-knee skirt.

However, she was allowed to cover the event after she changed into a long skirt. — Bernama
