KUCHING: Three students from the English Language Centre (ELC) won awards in the Commonwealth Essay Competition last year.

Seventeen-year-old Elisia Tho won the Gold award in the Senior Category while Jessica Lau, 15 and Tion Jia Sing, 16, each received the Bronze award.

The three award-winning essays focus on the theme of the competition which was ‘Theme Commonwealth’ in celebration of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

“Jessica and Elisia wrote about unity and how a common bond between people and nations can promote better understanding as well as give additional strength to each other in order to achieve success. Jia Sing’s essay is told through a personal narrative which highlights the value of good partnership,” the institute said in a statement yesterday.
