Miri ex-police association wants premises of its own

MIRI: Members of the Malaysian Ex-Police Association’s branch here feel that it is time that they have their own proper and permanent premises to hold their activities.

“It’s high time that we have a proper and permanent venue for members; otherwise we would continue ‘squatting’ at the places of others, lowering our status as former civil servants,” branch chairman Han Hipeni told thesundaypost during a recent gathering at Piasau Camp here.

The multi-event was to observe the closing of the Gawai Dayak celebrations, a housewarming party and breaking of fast for Muslim guests.

Hipeni, who is former Sibu police chief, said the housewarming party was actually meant to bless the house in Piasau Camp, presented by Miri Resident’s Office as a temporary venue for the branch to run activities.

Meanwhile, Hipeni said the branch had listed out many upcoming programmes for members including a Hari Raya gathering, family day, a blood donation drive and fundraisers.

“Fund-raising is our ongoing mission to help our less-fortunate members.”

The function in Piasau Camp was graced by Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who later presented a cheque for RM3,500 to the branch.

SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, SUPP Pujut chairman Adam Yii, Miri Ex-Police Association permanent chairman William Ngadan and its secretary Zainal Mat Zain were among those present.
