SIBU: A talk on ‘Brain Disease Awareness’ yesterday, organised by the pro tem committee of Sibu Parkinson’s Society (SPS), received overwhelming response from members of the public here.

The free all-Mandarin session at Level 7 of Wisma Hua Wen Du Zong near Brooke Drive here was conducted by Dr Yee Rou Chen from Universiti Malaya’s Medical Centre and Song Hua Hung, a physiotherapist from ITA College who is also SPS pro tem deputy chairman.

According to SPS pro tem chairman Hii Sieh Toh, the programme was part of the society’s mission in generating greater awareness of brain diseases among the masses.

He said SPS, which was set up two months ago, also strove to register people with Parkinson’s disease.

“So far, we have visited more than 20 Parkinson’s disease patients in Sarikei and Sibu.”

The SPS pro tem committee also comprises Dr Simon Lau Boung Yew as secretary and Ling Mei Ling as treasurer, while members are Dr Ngian Hie Ung, Fan Chiaw Poh, Wong Meng Chuo, Asmah Abdullah @ Chang Lie Sin, Sia Sui Mee and Normah Abdul Rahman.
