KUCHING: Young Engineers Section (YES) of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Sarawak Branch, will be holding `IEM Engineer’s Run’ here this coming Sept 13.

Its organising chairman, Johnny Tan Joo Kok, said the inaugural run, to be held at Kuching South City Council’s headquarters, is to celebrate Malaysia’s Engineer’s Week and to promote healthy living.

“It is also to promote IEM and to facilitate exchange of information and ideas related to engineering,” he told a press conference at Gaya Sports Sdn Bhd yesterday.

The run will be divided into two broad categories: One for engineers and another for non-engineers or members of the public who are aged 13 and above.

“There will be a 10km run for engineers (Men and Women), 10km run for the public (Men and Women), and 5km fun runs for everyone.”

IEM Sarawak Branch will be partnering with Ingram Micro, the sole distributor of FitBit (wireless wearable activity tracker), by rewarding the top 10km finishers with FitBit trackers.

Gaya Sports, an authorized FitBit reseller and the official partner of the event, will be offering an attractive discount for 80 units of FitBit Trackers to participants.

Apart from MBKS as their city council partner, other sponsors for the run include Gaya Sports, Phoenix Gym (official gym partner), and Revive (official hydration partner).

Sarawak Energy Berhad and Weida (M) Bhd are gold sponsors, while Alpha Survey Consultant, CIDB Malaysia, and Cahya Mata Sarawak are silver sponsors for the run. City Joggers Club and Revolution Run Co. are also supporting the event.

The registration fees per person are RM35 for the 5km Fun Runs, and RM40 for the 10km Competitive Runs. Entry forms can be obtained from Gaya Sports Sdn Bhd, Phoenix Gym, IEM YES Sarawak Facebook page and IEM Sarawak branch office at Ultimate Professional Centre located at Jalan Bukit Mata.

“All proceeds from the run will go to Sarawak Kidney Association.”
