Govt ensures people’s interests, well-being given priority — DPM

MUAR: The government will ensure that the people’s  interests and well-being are given priority although the country is facing all kinds of challenges, including global economic uncertainty, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The deputy prime minister said it was not easy for the leaders to administer the country which had diverse races, religions and languages but it was proof that the government was capable of doing everything for the people.

“We have achieved many successes that have become the existing government policies to help all races and groups,” he said when speaking at the breaking of fast and zakat presentation at Surau Saadiah here yesterday.

Muhyiddin was accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman. Also present were state Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Executive Committee chairman Ismail Mohamed, Jorak state assemblyman Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh and Pagoh Umno Division Wanita chief Senator Datuk Noriah Mahat.

Muhyiddin said in the face of global economic uncertainty which affected many countries at present, Malaysia was not exempted from its spillover effects but numerous assistance had need provided to ease the people’s burden.

“Despite the uncertainty, our people are fortunate because the situation is still peaceful and we have given many assistance to ease their burden.

“For instance, the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) being given to the people and, at the same time, it is not being to the people in other countries,” he said.

He said because of that, Muslims in the country must become Muslims who can be emulated when Muslims in other countries such as Syria and Iraq were facing problems. Muhyiddin urged the people to pray that the country’s prevailing stability and prosperity would be maintained despite facing many challenges at present.

“As deputy prime minister, I am always asked about that challenges and I understand how they are feeling but we will ensure that the people will continue to enjoy comfort and security,” he said. — Bernama
