KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday granted an interim injunction to stop Datuk Seri G Palanivel from carrying out duties as the MIC president and holding any gathering in the party.
Judicial commissioner Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab granted the order following an application filed by Ampang Jaya MIC Branch chairman Datuk N Muneandy.
The order prevents Palanivel from carrying out duties as the MIC president and also stops him from holding any gathering in the party and approving any resolution on behalf of the party until the final decision on the originating summons.
Muneandy had filed the originating summons on July 3 at the High Court registry here through Messrs Vas & Co.
Meanwhile, Muneandy told a press conference today that the application for the interim injunction was filed under his personal capacity as a branch chairman with the consent of the 2009 MIC Central Working Committee.
“I filed for the injunction in my personal capacity. I got the consent of the 2009 CWC last Monday to file for this interim injunction,” he told reporters at the MIC headquarters here.
Muneandy said there was confusion among MIC members on the party’s leadership and as a branch chairman he felt
that he should do something to restrain Palanivel from continuing to confuse grassroots members.
Meanwhile, lawyer A Vasanthi said the injunction was to ensure that there was only one lawful acting president and that the 2009 CWC acknowledged by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) was the lawful committee to conduct the party’s elections. — Bernama
