LAHAD DATU: A 35-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and then attempted suicide at their quarters in Ladang Sahabat 54, Felda Sahabat on Sunday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Hamzah Ahmad said the 28-year-old victim identified as Nurmiati Bin Jupri was stabbed and hacked to death.
Hamzah said the couple’s eleven-year-old son told police that he was awakened by the heated argument between his parents about 3am.
The boy claimed he later saw his father slapping his mother before stabbing and hacking her to death, he said.
“The witness later ran to their neighbour’s house to seek help before returning. When he arrived home, he saw his father slashing himself and falling to the ground,” Hamzah said when contacted yesterday.
He said the police were alerted to the incident at 3.30am and rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found that the suspect (husband) was still alive and took him to the hospital.
Police found a Samurai sword and a sickle believed to be used in the incident.
“Police are still investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he added.
