MIRI: SUPP and United People’s Party (UPP) put their political differences aside during a ‘Ngiling Bidai’ (rolling of the mat) event organised by Kampung Sealine residents on Sunday.

Present were SUPP secretary-general, Datuk Sebastian Ting, SUPP Senadin chairman cum Assistant Minister of Communication, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, political secretary to the Chief Minister, Suzanne Lee, UPP Senadin chairman, Councillor Keith Chin, and UPP Pujut chairman, Bruce Chai.

Chai said it was Kampung Sealine’s residents who invited leaders from both parties to attend the event.

“The residents made this difficult decision even though they know it would make certain quarters unhappy,” Chai told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Anyway, Chai said the event was held in the interest of racial harmony, and everyone should join in the festive celebration.

At the gathering, the invited guests were given the honour to cut the Ranyai tree and roll a mat to mark the close of this year’s Gawai Dayak.
