SIBU: Yusof Leng, 53, is all smiles because orders for his cakes have been picking up as Hari Raya Aidilfitri draws nearer.

The trader at the Ramadan bazaar in front of Wisma Sanyan here told The Borneo Post that he would expect more coming over the next several days.

Yusof, with over 20 years of trading experience under his belt, disclosed that some teachers were also placing orders for cheese and ‘Horlicks’ cakes from him, which sell at around RM100 each.

“I also work to fulfil orders from my regular customers,” he said when met on Sunday.

Besides cakes, he also sells other local delicacies such as ‘kuih bungkur’.

He said the ideal location coupled with the fine weather had drawn people to throng his corner stall next to the stairways leading to the entrance of the building.

Yusof also expressed his gratitude to the organiser, who had speedily responded to their request.

“They are very caring and efficient. They will check with us on how our business is doing.”

He pointed out each stall was provided with three chairs, apart from lighting to spruce up the Ramadan atmosphere.

Elsewhere, operators of 15 stalls at the Ramadan bazaar in Kampung Bandong here, managed under the Nangka branch of Sarawak United National Youths Organisation (Saberkas), are enjoying brisk business as well.

The bazaar’s organising chairman Mohamad Safree Mohamad, who is also Saberkas Nangka secretary, described it as a success.

“To me, the Saberkas Ramadan bazaar is better and more successful than last year. This year, it is especially geared towards helping youths earn extra income,” he said.
