PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has called on Wall Street Journal (WSJ)’s publishers to explain their position in alleging illegal transfers of 1Malaysia Develop Bhd (1MDB) funds into his personal accounts.

Najib conveyed his demand though his lawyer firm Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak in a letter to the publication’s board of directors Dow Jones and Company Inc dated today.

“In the circumstances, we are instructed by our client to seek confirmation as to whether it is your position as taken in the Articles that our Client misappropriated nearly USD 700 million from 1Malaysia Development Berhad?” read the document.

The letter referred to WSJ’s articles ‘Malaysian leader’s accounts probed’ and ‘Scandal in Malaysia’ in which the firm stated “contains a plethora of convoluted, scurrilous and vague allegations against our client”.

The firm also demanded a reply within 14 days. -Agencies
