KINABATANGAN: Four family members were burnt to death in a midnight fire that destroyed two wooden houses at Kampung Lot M Bukit Garam here on Tuesday.

District police chief Superintendent A. Sahak Rahmat said the victims were a woman, her son and two grandchildren. They were identified as Hajah Lidia binti Ibiti, 55, Sudirman Bin Ladising, 38, his four-year-old son, Mohd Syawal, and Sudirman’s two-year-old niece, Nurul Fatihah Nabila Binti Jamal.

“Their remains were found in a bedroom and have been sent to Kinabatangan Hospital for post mortem,” he said yesterday.

Sudirman’s sister, Dahlia Ladising, 33, managed to escape from the burning house with her two-month old daughter, Tiara Adriana Binti Jamal.

Seventeen people, who were staying in the second house, managed to escape unhurt.

The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 11.58pm and sent 17 firemen who arrived at the scene at 12.06am.

One house was burnt to the ground while the second house was partially destroyed when the firemen arrived.

When they completed the operation at 3.10am, they discovered four charred bodies of two adults and two children in the first house.

The cause of fire and losses are still under investigation.
