SIBU: Goodwill Basketball Club has chalked up two victories to lead the table in Group A in the Sibu U-17 Basketball Championship being held at Sungei Antu Basketball Court.
It was a walk in the park for Goodwill as it easily swept aside Brave 79-28 in a lop-sided match, Monday evening.
Goodwill, powered by several divisional seasoned players, was a class above, winning all the four quarters at 15-5, 21-6, 20-5, 23-12.
Earlier, Goodwill also thrashed Berjaya 82-55 .
Halftime score was 40-25.
Berjaya, meanwhile, beat Friendship 71-21 to lie in second spot with three points.
In Group B, Huat Yong stamped its superiority with a 117-23 thumping victory over Low Key.
Huat Yong players completely dominated the match to register an easy win of 35-9 15-10, 35-0, 32-4.
Low Key, nevertheless, gained some consolation after beating Rookie 94-29 to top the group with three points from two matches.
Rookie suffered another defeat to Eden Empire 23-97 to lie in the bottom of the group.
Sibu Basketball Association secretary Ting Siew Nguong said the competition was aimed at selecting outstanding players to represent Sibu in the state-level U-17 championship to be held here in August.
“Shortlisted players will then represent Sarawak for a national level meet in the Peninsula later this year,” he added
The competition will be played on round-robin basis with the 10 teams divided into two groups.
Group A comprises of Goodwill Basketball Club, Brave, Friendship, Berjaya and Eagle while Group B involves Cheh Ming Sdn Bhd, Rookie, Eden Empire, Huat Yong Enterprise and Low-Key.
Only three teams are taking part in the girls’ section. They are Huat Yong Enterprise, Best Girl and IMalaysia.
