KOTA KINABALU: A senior citizen succumbed to head injuries after the Proton Saga Iswara car he was travelling in knocked a water pipe at Jalan Burung Kalito, near BTC Restaurant, Kolombong, here yesterday.

Albert Limbang Pelang, 66, from Tamparuli sustained severe head injuries when he knocked his head on the car windscreen in the 7.10am incident.

It is believed that the victim had lost control of the vehicle while heading to Inanam.

The car then swerved to the side of the road and knocked a water pipe.

The victim was thrown forward due to the impact, hitting his head on the windscreen.

Meanwhile, city police chief ACP M. Chandra said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.

The body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem and family members had been notified, he said.

The case would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
