LAWAS: Two accident hotspots have been identified in this district involving stretches of roads from KM10 to 12 Merapok Road and KM5 to 20 Trusan Road.

Head of police public order, ASP Liong Tindan, said ‘Ops Selamat’ to focus on these two stretches would therefore be held in conjunction with this coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

He said that apart from static inspection police personnel would also intensify their patrols along the roads and also in several residential areas here.

Motorists are urged to take extra precautions when driving along these ‘bad’ stretches.

“Meanwhile, those intending to leave their homes to celebrate Hari Raya elsewhere should notify the police or their neighbours of their absence. Take all the necessary precautions to prevent incidents like burglary and theft,” he said when met after the launch of the road safety campaign held in front of Main Bazaar here yesterday.

It was launched by Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan who also distributed safety helmets and Raya goodies to motorists.

Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong, chairman of the Limbang Road Safety Council and Resident Maria Hasman, Lawas District Officer Husaini Hakim and head of Road Transport Department here Julaihee Dison were also present.
